Hands Down The Best Place to Live in Winston Salem|Recommended: YesI lived in the Nissen Building for 3 1 2 years and just moved out this past weekend to relocate for work. The service level from the staff is unmatched. Suzy, Rodney, Tara, Ken and Don are all awesome. Maintenance requests almost always receive same-day attention and it is common for them to be addressed within an hour or two. Additionally, they make the move-in and move-out process as seamless as possible. The staff will reserve the loading dock for you, greet you at the door, lock the service elevator for your private use throughout your move and provide you with multiple tools to assist with moving such as a handtruck, dolly and bell hop cart. The building itself is ornately decorated and very elegant. The building boasts an 18 story marble staircase, gold gilded elevators as well as two finely decorated common spaces that residents may reserve free of charge for social functions. I would be remiss if I did not mention the rooftop pool and lounge area as well. The view from the pool deck is breathtaking, with views of the entire city as well as Pilot Mtn, Hanging Rock and the distant Appalachian mountains. The pool is open year round and is capable of being heated with prior notice. My fellow residents were very friendly and I actually met many of my close friends up at the pool and at staff-organized social events. Finally, the location of the Nissen building could not be more prime. It is located right in the middle of anything you could want to do in the downtown area. There are a plethora of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, art galleries, and breweries within a short walk. There is also an Indie movie theatre located directly across the street and the two top performing arts centers in the city are within a 3 min walk. Additionally, Old Salem and Innovation Quarter Bailey Park are each only about a 7-8 min walk away. If you are in the market for a downtown apartment you absolutely must stop in and take a tour.
Drake, Thank you very much for submitting such a fabulous on-line review about your experience living at the Nissen Building Apartments in Downtown Winston-Salem! My staff and I will miss seeing you here but we expect to see you at our upcoming social events ~ especially the Luau which will be held on Friday, August 24th, from 7PM to 11PM! It is always difficult seeing our long-term residents relocate to other areas but ironically we have seen a lot of our past residents move back! So, you never know what might happen. Good luck to you and your new opportunity and thank you for being such a great resident! Sincerely, Suzy Baxter, Property Manager, Nissen Building Apartments
Coming Back|Recommended: YesWe lived there for the past 4 years and left last October for more space and less out of pocket but absolutely missed everything about living there. From the most awesome staff both professional and they feel like friends to the location. We got married in the lobby and the support we got to get that done to the respect the tenants showed considering the occasion added to how memorable it was. Unlike some of the downtown places that feel more like dorms on steroids this place is made more for adults of all ages not meaning just older folks The environment creates an atmosphere where the tenants are respectful of each other and again that starts with the staff and the way they treat those who live there. Can't wait to get back there and stay this time
Dear Suzy & Doug, Thank you very, very much for the sincere on-line letter. We are looking forward to your return home to the Nissen Building Apartments this summer! You had an unforgettable wedding here and truly turned our lobby into New York City for a night! It means a lot when former residents return to the Nissen....One year, we managed to have a former resident return to her actual apartment after several years of being away! We are anxiously awaiting your return! Sincerely, The Staff at the Nissen Building Apartments (Suzy, Tara, Rodney, Ken, Josh & Don)
Great Place to Live |Recommended: YesGreat place to live Excellent location. The front office staff is very nice and easily accessible. They go out of their way to address any questions you have. The maintenance staff is great. The common areas are always being cleaned and look very nice. Packages get delivered to your door, which is awesome Tons of holiday parties and events that are free to attend with food and drinks. I really do not have any complaints. I am only moving because a new job and if I were to move back to the area I would come back in a second

I love it Beautiful, upscale living|Recommended: YesI love the Nissen I think the price is fair for such a wonderful apartment complex. It is beautiful and well made The staff is absolutely amazing and they take the time to know their residents by name. Even the doorman knows my long distance boyfriend by name. There is some noise on the street - but they are very upfront about it in the lease and it is no different than any other complex downtown. I personally like having that city feel to living here. I live with a roommate and I actually am very satisfied with the fact that we can't hear each other at all when we are both in our rooms, even while playing music, watching TV, or on the phone. This Nissen is well kept and always looks beautiful and clean. There is even a small gym for people who don't need too much equipment. The roof is my favorite part because it is the best view of all of Winston-Salem. It's great at night and in the summer to lay out and tan. Also, I find the Nissen to feel very safe. Our doorman is strict with sign-ins on the weekends and they keep a close eye on who is coming and going. Overall, I would definitely recommend the Nissen
Thank you for the kind words Brooke, we sincerely appreciate it! It is a pleasure having you as a resident!
Best place to live in Winston|Recommended: YesMoved here for work about half a year out of college and I couldn't have picked a better location. Tara, Suzy, Rodney, and Don are all amazing and always look out for their residents. Extremely nice apartments that were in perfect condition on move in day. Love the location which can't get any better. Can't complain about parking because there is always something available around the building, just need to know where to look I would recommend the Nissen over competitors like Factory lofts, plant 64, piedmont leaf, which I checked out all prior. You will not get a better deal. Love living in affordable luxury
Management A Location A Everything A |Recommended: YesWe lived in the Nissen Building for almost 2 years - the only reason we moved is we were ready for a house to settle our roots in. First off, the staff is awesome, Suzy just lived down the hall from us, and Rodney also lives in the building, so its nice having management staff that also live on site taking in pride in a building they not only run, but live in. Maintenance was always prompt, we had couple issues with our washing machine once and Ken was on it til it got fixed Being close to everything is something I will miss, we were a floor above Camino so I frequented there often, sometimes even worked from there Noise wise, we hardly heard neighbors, just hearing them come down the hall due to echos, but that was it - only noise for us was street noise since we lived closer to the street, but it really wasn't bad at all Parking in the deck was nice, could be a hassle some days when hotel flow was busy, but it wasn't bad and next to the bike patrol We will miss everyone here
